Accepting / Rejecting an Offer

Mrs Faith Osuolale
accept/refuse

Accepting / Rejecting an Offer means responding to an invitation, gift, or request in a polite and respectful way. It helps children show good manners and confidence when making decisions.

It is important to note that knowing how to accept/reject an offer helps to:
i. Show appreciation and gratitude.
ii. Avoid hurting people’s feelings.
iii. Build strong friendships and good relationships.
iv. Speak clearly and confidently.
v. Make wise and safe choices.
vi. Use kind words even when saying “no”.
vii. Develop good social and communication skills.

Additionally, our GET-IT-RIGHT topic is the Use of Fall, Falls, Fell and Fallen.

a) Fall is used for plural subjects or with I/you/we/they in the present.
Examples:
1. The leaves fall every dry season.
2. We fall down when we run too fast.

b) Falls is used with singular subjects such as he, she, or it.
Examples:
1. The pencil falls off the table.
2. She falls asleep after reading.

c) Fell is the past tense of fall.
Examples:
1. The boy fell from his chair yesterday.
2. We fell on our way to school.

d) Fallen is the past participle and is used with helping verbs such as has, have, or had.
Examples:
1. The fruit has fallen from the tree.
2. Many leaves have fallen on the ground.

How can parents help? We can encourage our children to do the following:
1. Say “Thank you, yes please” when accepting politely.
2. Say “No thank you” with a smile when rejecting politely.
3. Give a reason when rejecting, e.g., “No thank you, I’m full.”
4. Practise the correct use of fall, falls, fell, fallen in sentences at home.
5. Correct them gently whenever they misuse these words.
6. Role-play accepting/rejecting offers with snacks, toys, or invitations.

This will help them communicate politely, make good choices, and speak English correctly at all times.

Do have a lovely week

Thank you.
